Apple Hand Pies are individual, portable pastries filled with a sweet and spiced apple filling, wrapped in flaky pie crust and baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sugar for sprinkling (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix diced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch until well combined.
  3. Unroll pie crusts and cut out circles using a 4-inch round cutter.
  4. Spoon a small amount of apple mixture into the center of each dough circle.
  5. Fold dough over the filling to form a half-moon shape. Press edges with a fork to seal.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together egg and milk to make egg wash. Brush over each pie.
  7. Sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
  8. Cut a small slit on top of each pie to allow steam to escape.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes
