Beef and Vegetable Pita is a satisfying dish that combines tender, seasoned beef with fresh vegetables, all tucked into a warm pita pocket. It’s a perfect blend of textures and flavors, ideal for lunches, casual dinners, or on-the-go meals.

Ingredients

  • Ground beef or thinly sliced beef strips
  • Olive oil
  • Garlic, minced
  • Onion, finely chopped
  • Ground cumin
  • Ground coriander
  • Paprika
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Pita bread or flatbread
  • Lettuce, shredded
  • Tomato, diced
  • Cucumber, sliced
  • Red onion, thinly sliced
  • Yogurt sauce, hummus, or tahini (optional for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add garlic and onion; sauté until softened and fragrant.
  3. Add the beef and cook until browned, breaking up clumps if using ground beef.
  4. Season with cumin, coriander, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and cook for another 2-3 minutes to blend the flavors.
  5. Warm the pita bread in a dry skillet or oven.
  6. Fill each pita with the beef mixture and top with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and red onion.
  7. Drizzle with yogurt sauce, hummus, or tahini if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Spicy version: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the beef mixture.
  • Cheesy twist: Sprinkle shredded cheese inside the pita before filling.
  • Herb boost: Add fresh mint, parsley, or cilantro for added freshness.
  • Vegetarian version: Substitute the beef with cooked lentils or plant-based crumbles.
  • Storage: Store the beef mixture separately in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat in a skillet. Pita bread can be stored at room temperature in a sealed bag for 1-2 days.
