Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
  • 1 1/4 cups dark brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup whole milk or buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Optional glaze: 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp butter, 2 tbsp cream, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a loaf or bundt pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream butter, dark brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk.
  6. Stir in vanilla extract until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 60–70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. For the glaze (optional): Combine brown sugar, butter, and cream in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer, then remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Drizzle over cooled cake.
