Cheesy Baked Meatballs with Herbs are juicy, oven-baked meatballs filled with gooey mozzarella and seasoned with herbs, all smothered in savory tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or beef/pork blend
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 small onion, grated or finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 12 mozzarella cheese cubes (about 1/2 inch)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground meat, egg, breadcrumbs, garlic, onion, parsley, oregano, salt, pepper, and Parmesan. Mix until fully incorporated.
  3. Take a small amount of meat mixture and form into a ball, pressing a cube of mozzarella into the center. Seal well.
  4. Place meatballs into a greased baking dish and spoon tomato sauce over them.
  5. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until meatballs are cooked through and cheese is melted inside.
  6. Garnish with additional Parmesan and parsley before serving.

Notes

  • Use lean ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
  • Try provolone or gouda as cheese alternatives.
  • Chili flakes or hot sauce can add a spicy kick.
  • Seal the meatballs well to keep cheese from leaking out.
