Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 loaf French bread or ciabatta
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking tray with foil.
  2. Slice the bread in half lengthwise, then make crosswise cuts to form squares without cutting through the base.
  3. In a bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, salt, and pepper.
  4. Spread the garlic butter into the cuts of the bread.
  5. Stuff mozzarella and Parmesan cheese between the cuts generously.
  6. Place the prepared loaf on the baking tray and bake for 12–15 minutes, until cheese is melted and the top is golden.
  7. Remove from oven, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic for maximum flavor, or substitute with garlic powder in a pinch.
  • To make ahead, prepare and store in the fridge until ready to bake.
  • Use foil if cheese begins to brown too quickly during baking.
  • Customize with herbs, spices, or proteins like bacon or pepperoni.
  • Great as a party snack or served alongside soups and pastas.
