Cherry Almond Snowball Cookies are tender, buttery holiday treats made with finely chopped almonds and maraschino cherries. These melt-in-your-mouth cookies are rolled in powdered sugar for a festive, snowy finish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (plus extra for rolling)
  • 2 tsp almond extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, finely chopped and patted dry
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped almonds

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Mix in the almond extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  6. Fold in the chopped maraschino cherries and almonds until evenly distributed.
  7. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly golden (tops will not brown much).
  9. Let cookies cool for 5 minutes, then roll warm cookies in powdered sugar.
  10. Once completely cooled, roll the cookies again in powdered sugar for a snowy effect.

Notes

  • Dry cherries thoroughly to prevent excess moisture in the dough.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • Great make-ahead option for holiday cookie trays or gift boxes.
