Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup chocolate spread or ganache
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • Oil for frying (canola or vegetable)

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast in warm milk and let sit until foamy.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, eggs, butter, salt, and vanilla. Add the yeast mixture and knead to form a soft dough.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  4. Roll out the dough and cut into equal-sized rounds.
  5. Place a spoonful of chocolate filling on half the rounds and top with the other halves, sealing the edges firmly.
  6. Let the filled donuts rise again for about 30 minutes until puffy.
  7. Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts in batches until golden brown on both sides.
  8. Drain on paper towels and roll in granulated sugar while still warm.
  9. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Use thick ganache or chocolate spread to prevent leaks.
  • Ensure oil temperature stays consistent to avoid greasy donuts.
  • Try different fillings like jam or custard for variety.
  • Donuts can be baked at 375°F for a lighter option.
