Ingredients
Scale
5 cups day-old bread, cubed (preferably brioche or challah)
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
1/2 cup mixed dried fruits (e.g., raisins, cranberries, chopped apricots)
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
3 large eggs
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
Butter (for greasing the baking dish)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish with butter.
Spread cubed bread in the baking dish. Sprinkle chocolate chips and dried fruits evenly over the top.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together milk, cream, eggs, sugars, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread, pressing down lightly to soak all the pieces.
Let sit for 10–15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the custard.
Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set but still soft.
Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm on its own or with whipped cream or ice cream.
Notes
Use day-old or slightly stale bread for best texture.
Customize with your favorite dried fruits or chocolate types.
Soaking time helps the custard absorb evenly — don’t skip it.
Leftovers can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
