Classic Beef Ravioli in Tomato Sauce is a comforting Italian dish featuring tender pasta pockets filled with seasoned ground beef, all simmered in a rich tomato sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center, add eggs and olive oil, and mix to form a dough. Knead for 5-10 minutes until smooth. Let rest for 30 minutes covered.
  2. Meanwhile, in a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Add garlic, salt, pepper, and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove from heat and mix in Parmesan cheese. Set aside to cool.
  3. Roll out pasta dough into thin sheets. Place small spoonfuls of beef filling on one sheet, cover with another sheet, press around filling to seal, and cut into ravioli shapes.
  4. In a saucepan, heat olive oil and sauté onion until soft. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook ravioli in batches for 3-4 minutes or until they float.
  6. Drain ravioli and add to the tomato sauce. Gently toss to coat.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil or parsley if desired.

Notes

  • You can freeze uncooked ravioli for later use.
  • Substitute beef with ground turkey or plant-based meat for variation.
  • Ensure the dough is rolled thin for tender ravioli.
