  • 1 lb ground beef or sausage
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese or cottage cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Boil lasagna noodles until al dente according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until fragrant.
  3. Add ground beef or sausage and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  6. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  7. In a 9×13-inch baking dish, layer noodles, meat sauce, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers, finishing with mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake another 15 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  9. Let lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use no-boil noodles for quicker prep.
  • Letting the lasagna rest helps layers set for cleaner slicing.
  • Customize the filling with vegetables or different cheeses.
  • Freeze portions for convenient meals later.
  • Add fresh herbs like basil or parsley for extra flavor.
