Light and fluffy donuts baked to golden perfection and coated in a crispy cinnamon sugar topping. These donuts are a sweet and satisfying treat without the need for frying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the topping:
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
  6. Bake for 15–18 minutes or until the donuts are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Let donuts cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  8. In a shallow bowl, mix sugar and cinnamon for the topping. Dip each warm donut in melted butter, then coat in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  9. Serve warm or store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.

Notes

  • Best enjoyed fresh the day they’re baked.
  • Use a piping bag or zip-top bag with the corner snipped off for easy filling of the pan.
  • You can substitute nutmeg with more cinnamon for a milder spice flavor.
  • Try adding a pinch of cardamom or allspice for a twist.
