Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch or flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying (canola or vegetable)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar or lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

For the Dip:

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce or fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed

Instructions

  1. Season shrimp with salt and pepper, then toss in cornstarch or flour until well coated.
  2. Heat oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry shrimp in batches until golden and crispy, about 2–3 minutes per side. Drain on paper towels.
  3. In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, vinegar, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Cook over medium heat until slightly thickened, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Toss the fried shrimp in the glaze until evenly coated.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together dipping sauce ingredients: soy/fish sauce, sweet chili sauce, lime juice, and crushed garlic.
  6. Serve glazed shrimp hot with dipping sauce on the side. Garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh or thawed shrimp and pat dry thoroughly before coating.
  • For a healthier version, air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 8–10 minutes.
  • The glaze can be made ahead and gently reheated before tossing with shrimp.
  • Adjust chili flakes for desired spice level.
  • Great with rice, salad, or served alone as an appetizer.
