Ingredients
Scale
1 medium head cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup water
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred for extra crispiness)
1 tbsp sesame oil
1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
1 tbsp rice vinegar
1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
1 tbsp sesame seeds
2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, water, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until a smooth batter forms.
Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, letting excess drip off, then coat with breadcrumbs.
Place coated florets on the baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crispy.
Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine sesame oil, soy sauce, maple syrup (or honey), and rice vinegar over medium heat.
Once warm, stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
Remove baked cauliflower from oven and toss with the sesame sauce until coated.
Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve immediately.
Notes
For gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs.
Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a full meal.
Adjust sweetness by using more or less maple syrup or honey.
Air fryer can be used instead of oven for extra crispiness.
