Crispy Sesame Cauliflower Bites are a delicious plant-based appetizer or snack featuring battered and baked cauliflower florets tossed in a sweet, savory sesame sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium head cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko preferred for extra crispiness)
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, water, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until a smooth batter forms.
  3. Dip each cauliflower floret into the batter, letting excess drip off, then coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Place coated florets on the baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through, until golden and crispy.
  5. Meanwhile, in a saucepan, combine sesame oil, soy sauce, maple syrup (or honey), and rice vinegar over medium heat.
  6. Once warm, stir in cornstarch slurry and cook until the sauce thickens, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Remove baked cauliflower from oven and toss with the sesame sauce until coated.
  8. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For gluten-free version, use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles for a full meal.
  • Adjust sweetness by using more or less maple syrup or honey.
  • Air fryer can be used instead of oven for extra crispiness.
