Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
  • 1 cup (200g) packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cups (340g) semisweet chocolate chunks

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until well combined.
  4. Whisk in the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chunks evenly.
  7. Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 12-14 minutes or until edges are golden but centers are still soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Chilling the dough for 30 minutes can enhance the chewiness.
  • Do not overbake; cookies will continue to cook on the baking sheet.
  • You can substitute chocolate chunks with chips if preferred.
