1lb fresh okra, sliced into 1/2-inch pieces
1cup buttermilk
1cup cornmeal
1/2cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
Place sliced okra in a bowl and pour buttermilk over it. Let it soak for 10 minutes.
In a separate bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, and paprika.
Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
Dredge the soaked okra in the cornmeal mixture, coating evenly.
Fry the okra in batches, turning occasionally, for 3-4 minutes or until golden and crispy.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serve hot as a snack or side dish.
