Ingredients
UnitsScale
1 1/2lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
8 bacon strips
1cup fresh basil leaves
4 brioche buns
4 romaine or butter lettuce leaves
1 large tomato, sliced
1 small red onion, thinly sliced
Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
Olive oil or butter, for toasting buns
For herbed aioli:
1/2cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, minced
1 tablespoon fresh basil, minced
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Prepare the herbed aioli by combining mayonnaise, minced basil, parsley, garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use.
Cook bacon in a skillet over medium heat until crisp. Drain on paper towels and reserve a teaspoon of bacon fat if desired.
Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions and shape into patties slightly larger than the buns. Make a thumb indentation in the center of each.
Season patties with salt and pepper on both sides. Cook in a hot skillet with oil or bacon fat for 3–4 minutes per side for medium doneness. Add cheese at the end if using.
Toast the brioche buns cut-side down in a skillet with butter or oil until golden.
Assemble burgers by spreading herbed aioli on both bun halves. Layer lettuce, tomato, burger patty, bacon, fresh basil, and red onion slices. Top with the other bun half.
Serve hot with a side of fries, chips, or salad.
Notes
Add cheese like cheddar, Swiss, blue cheese, or pepper jack for extra flavor.
Use plant-based or turkey patties for dietary preferences.
Add sliced jalapeños for heat or avocado for creaminess.
Mix store-bought basil pesto with mayo for a quick aioli shortcut.
Store components separately and reheat patties and bacon in the oven before assembling.
