These grilled pepperoni pizza sandwiches combine the crispiness of grilled bread with the melty, savory flavor of classic pizza. Filled with gooey mozzarella, spicy pepperoni, and rich marinara, they’re a satisfying twist on two comfort food favorites.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 4 slices bread (ciabatta, sourdough, or sandwich bread)
  • 16 slices pepperoni
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded or sliced)
  • 1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon oregano, basil, or red chili flakes

Instructions

  1. Butter the outside of each bread slice.
  2. On the unbuttered side, spread a layer of marinara sauce.
  3. Add mozzarella cheese and a layer of pepperoni.
  4. Sprinkle with oregano or chili flakes if desired, and top with another slice of bread (buttered side out).
  5. Heat a skillet or grill pan over medium heat.
  6. Grill the sandwich 3–4 minutes per side, pressing slightly, until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  7. Slice and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use garlic butter for an extra flavor boost.
  • Experiment with other toppings like mushrooms or olives.
  • Use a panini press for an even crispier texture.
  • Reheat in skillet or toaster oven to keep bread crisp.
  • Make mini versions for party appetizers.
