Ingredients
Scale
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
3 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup whole milk
2 cups heavy cream
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Food coloring or sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a heart-shaped cake pan.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
In a large bowl, cream butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Mix in vanilla extract.
Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the batter, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.
Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
Frost the cooled cake and decorate with food coloring or sprinkles as desired.
Notes
You can split the cake and add a fruit or jam filling.
Buttercream frosting can be used instead of whipped cream.
Chill the cake slightly before serving for cleaner slices.
