  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Red and green colored sanding sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and beat until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll each ball in red or green sanding sugar.
  7. Place on prepared baking sheets, spacing about 2 inches apart.
  8. Flatten each ball slightly with the bottom of a glass or your fingers.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden.
  10. Cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
