A refreshing and tangy lemonade infused with the subtle herbal notes of fresh basil, perfect for hot summer days.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 46 lemons)
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, loosely packed
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 cups cold water
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Lemon slices, for garnish (optional)
  • Fresh basil sprigs, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water, sugar, and basil leaves. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes until sugar is dissolved and basil is fragrant.
  2. Remove from heat and let the basil syrup cool. Strain to remove the basil leaves.
  3. In a large pitcher, combine the lemon juice and basil syrup.
  4. Add the remaining 4 cups of cold water and stir well.
  5. Refrigerate until chilled.
  6. Serve over ice with optional lemon slices and basil sprigs for garnish.

Notes

  • Adjust sugar to taste if you prefer a sweeter or more tart lemonade.
  • For a fizzy version, replace some water with sparkling water.
  • You can muddle some basil leaves in the glass before serving for an extra punch of flavor.
