The Luscious Cherry Cheese Danish is a golden, flaky puff pastry filled with sweetened cream cheese and topped with cherry filling. It’s a bakery-style treat perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 package puff pastry sheets (2 sheets, thawed)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 cup cherry pie filling or cherry preserves
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 12 tablespoons milk (for optional glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unfold puff pastry and cut into 8 squares or desired shapes.
  3. In a bowl, beat cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and egg yolk until smooth.
  4. Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square.
  5. Top with a small spoonful of cherry pie filling.
  6. Fold or shape the edges of the pastry, keeping the center exposed.
  7. Brush pastry edges with beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 15–18 minutes, until puffed and golden.
  9. Cool slightly and drizzle with glaze made by mixing powdered sugar and milk, if desired.

Notes

  • Don’t overfill to prevent leaking during baking.
  • Add almond extract for a cherry-almond twist.
  • Best served warm or at room temperature.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheat in the oven.
  • Freeze unbaked Danishes and bake straight from frozen with added time.
