Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp matcha powder (culinary grade)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream or 8 oz cream cheese (for frosting)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp matcha powder (for frosting)
  • Edible flowers (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, matcha powder, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture alternately with milk, mixing until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  7. For the frosting, whip heavy cream or beat cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth. Add matcha powder and mix until fully incorporated.
  8. Frost the cooled cakes and decorate with edible flowers.
