Ingredients
UnitsScale
4 slices sourdough or white sandwich bread
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1 tablespoon mayonnaise (optional, for added crispiness)
1/2cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2cup shredded mozzarella cheese
2 slices American cheese (optional for creaminess)
Instructions
Spread butter or mayonnaise on one side of each slice of bread.
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.
Layer cheddar, mozzarella, and American cheese between two slices of bread, buttered sides facing out.
Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes, until golden brown on the bottom.
Flip carefully and cook the other side until golden and the cheese is fully melted.
Remove from skillet, let cool for 1–2 minutes, then slice and serve immediately.
Notes
Use a lid while cooking to help the cheese melt faster.
Try different cheeses like Gruyère or pepper jack for variation.
Add-ins like tomatoes, caramelized onions, or bacon elevate the flavor.
Reheat leftovers in a skillet or toaster oven to restore crispness.
