Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in chocolate chips or chunks.
  7. Scoop dough into 1.5-tablespoon balls and place on baking sheets, spacing 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are golden and centers are just set.
  9. Let cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Use a slice of bread in your storage container to keep cookies soft.
  • Chilling the dough is optional but helps prevent spreading and improves flavor.
  • Microwave for a few seconds to restore that fresh-from-the-oven gooeyness.
